Thanksgiving Tree Trimming Time

Today is a great day, when the family is already gathered together in large numbers, to make up some old-fashioned tree garlands and have some old-fashioned family fun.

  1. Arrange some snacks (like some, Caramel Corn with Pecans from ReallyGoodPopcorn) to enjoy while you’re making the garlands.
  2. Pop some popcorn (keep it plain without any butter or seasonings) Pour into a large bowl and allow it to cool.
  3. Pour the cranberries into a bowl (get rid of the ugly ones, too soft, or broken berries).
  4. Get some needles (1 per person) and thread each with heavy-duty thread (buttonhole, quiliting thread or fishing line) and pull until doubled.
  5. Knot the thread with a large knot.
  6. Thread one cranberry and pull/push to the end of the thread and knot the thread around it to create the “end” of your garland. Thread a kernel of popcorn, followed by a cranberry, or and alternate until the thread is full.
  7. Leave enough thread to tie a sturdy knot at the end of the line.

Be creative! Let each person create their own unique pattern.

Want Some Guilty Pleasure...

According to the latest review of the movie, New Moon, by my friends at Atomic Popcorn the blockbuster sequel to Twilight shows great promise for movie goers.

"While most film series have weak second installments I found New Moon to be better than the original. However, in the end, New Moon is still the sequel to Twilight . So don't go to the theatre expecting some great dramatic work or art house film. That is never what these movies will be, but if you are going for a few laughs and some guilty pleasure, you just might enjoy yourself."

So what is the guilty pleasure that you'll be enjoying, why, the Popcorn, of course! Make your movie night a ReallyGoodPopcorn night!

Exciting News for Popcorn and Nut Lovers

Right across the way from me at the Kane County Flea Market is a Nut Roaster. Not only do we compete for customers, we have competing smells too. One thing I have learned in the past ten years of selling my ReallyGoodPopcorn is that there is enough business for both of us. In fact, many Nut Lovers are also avid popcorn fans and vice-versa. We share many of the same customers - which is why I am so excited to tell you about a new appliance from West Bend, the Kettle Krazy Popcorn Popper and Nut Roaster.

Ideal for the family of snack lovers, whether you love to curl up with a bowl of popcorn and watch movies or roasted nuts to serve to friends on poker night or when watching the big game. This electric popper quickly pops up to 6-quarts of fresh, hot popcorn in minutes or can make up to 3 cups of mall-kiosk-style glazed nuts. Under $40 bucks on Amazon.com, a great Christmas or Hanukkah present.

A Healthy Snack Food

It's hard to believe that Popcorn - a snack food that tastes so good can actually be good for you! With suggestions from organizations such as the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Dietetic Association (ADA), there's no doubt popcorn is a perfectly sensible snack to fit into any meal/fitness plan. Here’s why.

  • Popcorn contains fiber, providing roughage the body needs in the daily diet.
  • Popcorn is low in calories -- only 31-55 calories in one cup of unbuttered, and when lightly buttered, one cup still only has 133 calories.
  • Popcorn has no artificial additives or preservatives, and is sugar-free.
  • Popcorn contains energy-producing carbohydrates.
  • Popcorn is ideal for between meal snacking since it satisfies and doesn't spoil an appetite.
  • Popcorn inspires creativity.

While there's no doubt hot buttered popcorn is pleasing to any palate, popcorn also can be enjoyed when combined with seasonings, spices and other foods like raisins, fruit and cheese providing a nutritious, delicious snack. So, what are you waiting for, order Your Own Bucket of Really Good Popcorn today!

What's Your Favorite Date Movie? Here's Mine...

An interesting column on Glamour.com talks about your favorite date movies. As it says in the column... Imagine getting a bowl of popcorn, cuddling under a blanket and trying to sit still for two hours without making out. Which movie would you want to be watching? It goes on to list several all time classics.

For me, the best part of the night is the popcorn. Nothing beats movie night and homemade popcorn except for movie night and a big bag of Sugar Momma's Caramel and Cheesey popcorn.

If you're in the mood for some snuggling action, then rent your favorite movie or mine, Twilight (Two-Disc Special Edition) Enjoy your night, and enjoy your popcorn!!
